Prophetic Exegesis of the Book of Leviticus: A New Perspective

As we continue our studies through the word of God our focus is turned toward the duties of the tribe of Levi who were chosen by God to perform daily sacrifices and offerings as a foreshadow of the coming Christ who would become the ultimate sacrifice for our sins.

Oftentimes we are unaware that the very thing we are called to do in life is a part of God’s plan to reconcile humanity unto Himself. The Levites sacrificed the blood of lambs and goats but now we are to become the daily sacrifice according to Romans 12:1:

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God,

that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice,

holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

Our lives are daily reminders of the redemptive work of God through humanity. Each offering was made by fire representing the need for daily purification. Hebrews 13:15 admonishes us to “offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.”

As this study unfolds, I believe the underlying message is “Obedience” which will be explored in subsequent studies.

“…Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,

as in obeying the voice of the LORD?

Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”

1 Samuel 15:22
