Exploring the Significance of Ruth in the Bible

Ruth is only one of two books in the entire bible named after a woman. This is profound and indicates the significance of their contribution to the redemptive work of humanity.

The name Ruth means “friend” or “companion” which is clearly displayed throughout this study.

Although the study doesn’t go into this fact, I’ll mention it for those who were married and through no fault of their own it ended unexpectedly.  Most often, the furthest thing on our minds is not another marriage because of the feeling of mourning but just as the end was unexpected, so likewise the new beginning God has in store is unexpected.

Ruth’s decision to leave that which was familiar and seek after a God she was yet to know fully propelled her into being recognized as a virtuous woman who was given honorable mention in the Word of God.

This step of faith would cause her to walk into her divine destiny.

“And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers:

and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging to Boaz,

who was of the kindred of Elimelech.”
