Elijah is about to ascend to heaven, and his successor Elisha is eager to witness this event. When Elijah offers to do something for him before he departs, Elisha requests a double portion of Elijah’s spirit.
2 Kings continues with a demonstration of this request fulfilled as Elisha would perform twice as many miracles as Elijah.

This is a warning to all humanity, we can have miracles, signs and wonders surrounding us; great deliverances and success, but the moment that we turn from serving the true and living God we become subject to our fallen nature and will endure the consequences.
