In this prophetic study we continue our exegesis with the Minor Prophets of Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah and Haggai.
Nahum:
Nahum begins with the destruction of Nineveh, 100 years after Jonah. Nineveh’s repentance was only for a moment because of the backsliding nature of humanity. This usually occurs when humanity looks back or turns 360 degrees after repenting. True repentance is turning 180 degrees. Actively walking or running away from the past never looking or going back; determined not to cross that line again.
The wonderful thing about scripture is how it serves as our guide. We can apply scripture and the journeys of those who have gone before to our lives. This will allow us to avoid the pitfalls they encountered. When a word revealed parallels to our life, we can utilize it to walk out our salvation.
Habakkuk
Habakkuk prepared himself to hear from the LORD. “And the LORD answered…Write the vision…that he may run that readeth it.” (Habakkuk 2:2)
With Every Prayer Comes an Instruction!
Habakkuk was not only told to write what the LORD said to him but was also given insight as to when the vision/promise/word revealed would come to pass. “For the vision is yet for an appointed time…at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it: because it will surely come…” (Habakkuk 2:3) Once you have written down the promise of God and applied it to your life know that there is a set time for it to come to pass. “at the end” refers to after you have done what was instructed then wait for the promise to be fulfilled, it will surely come…knowing “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent” (Numbers 23:19
Zephaniah
Zephaniah passionately calls forth the urgent proclamation of “the day of the LORD,” shedding light on humanity’s alarming inclination to ignore God’s presence until disaster strikes. In our most desperate moments, we cry out to God, often without genuine comprehension of His majesty. This profound warning resonates with a clarion call to prepare our hearts for the looming chaos ahead! It draws a fierce contrast between the wise, who steadfastly anchor their lives on the enduring rock of Jesus Christ, and the foolish, who choose to build their hopes on shifting sand. Are you ready to stand firm when the storm approaches, or will you falter? The time is now to heed the call!
Haggai
This leads perfectly into Haggai where “Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways” (Haggai 1:7) Although natural houses were being considered, the underlining message to humanity was to take into account the status of our own individual house, the temple of God within.
“What, know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
We should care for our soul and spirit alongside our outward appearance to reflect God’s glory. Our body needs daily care, and similarly, our soul requires restoration from negativity while our spirit needs revival through the Word of God. Spending 5 minutes replacing negative thoughts with positive ones and another 5 minutes reading a Bible verse can enhance our spiritual well-being and help us avoid judgment on “the day of the LORD.”
